Immediately after graduating in French and Sociology at Lake Forest College, Nate decided to establish Nate Berkus Interiors, in 1995. Nate Berkus is now married to Jeremiah Brent since 2014, who is also an Interior Designer, with two kids. Both first met through Rachel Zoe, for which Brent worked as her assistant on the reality series “The Rachel Zoe Project”. Although both have worked for Oprah Winfrey (Nate as a regular guest on the Show), faith would have it that they would only meet later in life. Along the way, the pair had a show together on TLC, called “Nate and Jeremiah by Design”. In October 2021, the pair premiered a new show called “The Nate & Jeremiah Home Project” on HGTV.
The Series is already on its 4th episode and consists of the couple giving home renovations to family homes. Getting rid of what families do not use anymore and giving them a space where they can be themselves again!
The main challenge with this project was to make a 12,000-square-foot home feel cosy and welcoming for its family and their two dogs.
This interior design project was a partnership between Nate Berkus Interiors and Sasha Adler, who co-directed it. This project was a renovation of an old Nate Berkus Interiors work, as the client bought the flat that was previously elaborated by Berkus. This renovation left nothing unconsidered, taking this time an in-depth examination of all the finishes and corners.
An old-time client of Nate Berkus Interiors bought a house in Beverly Hills and wanted Berkus and his team to renovate it in a contemporary style while still transmitting their family’s essence.
This work was guided by Nate Berkus Interiors´ Design Director Lauren Buxbaum Gordon. Curious that this interior design job was on her Georgian Townhouse in Gold Coast, Chicago. The main objective of this project was to honor the houses’ original architecture and apply at the same time Lauren’s antiques collection. This was Lauren’s dream project as she lays down when she said that “It was kind of a cathartic experience to be able to implement everything I had dreamed of doing”.
This project was designed alongside Jeremiah Brent Design and its whole purpose was to utilize the amazing natural light that California provides. By taking down interior walls, the inside of this home became more spacious and enlightened, reflecting the personality of the family that lives there.
This design belongs to a Seattle property and took over 2.5 years from start to finish. About this design, Nate Berkus said that “it may be the first time I’ve been actively jealous of my clients”.
In this design, the client asked first for a one-room renovation, afterwards the project took a 180 turn and suddenly it became a whole home project.
