India Mahdavi – An Explosion of Colours

India Mahdavi is a huge explosion of forms and colours that are more or less psychedelics. She imposed a fresh and pop universe in the design world. In almost 30 years of career, India Mahdavi put her own signature in London, Beverly Hills, Monaco or Paris and made tens of place trendy by bringing her colourful touch.

India Mahdavi is born in Téhéran from an Egyptian mother and an Iranian father. She spent her childhood between USA, France and Germany. After being graduated from the Cooper Union and the School of Visual Arts of New York, she built her professionnal experience at Christian Liaigre agency. Between 1990 and 1997, she was named art director of the famous french house and finally, she decided to create her own agency in 1999.

Le sketch – Londres

The new interior design of the Sketch in London inaugurated in 2014 presented a quite innovating concept. Following the last Sketch from Noé Duchaufour Lawrence and Martin Creed, India Mahdavi decided to dress in pink, coper and marble the famous londonian restaurant. The objective of the designer was to create an enchanting univers, mixing fantaisy, curves in a cinema set spirit. The artist David Shrigley brough his touch to this piece of art, applying 250 drawings all around the room.

La durée – Beverly Hills

The prestigious french macarons brand owned plenty of shops all around the world, amoung which, one in Beverly Hills California. Revealing the charm of a pastry shop is a perfect job for the designer. Pink and Green dominate the shop, the place was though as a child refuge to savor delicious macarons.

Le showroom – Paris

India Mahdavi owns a large part of the rue de las Cases in Paris. There, we can find 2 showrooms and her studio. The showroom look like a large shop, mixing famous pieces of the designer such as pillows, couverts, stools or lightings. By entering inside the showroom you enter inside the India Mahdavi Universe.

Le Café Germain – Paris

 

This really surprising interior was created in the Quartier Saint Germain in Paris. The originality is given by the tall and imposant statue on the middle of the room. (primedentistry.net) The checkerboard floor is an element of the designer’s signature, such are the yellow and purple sits. Own by the groupe Beaumarly, this restaurant is also a good place to organise events and meet people.

L’Hôtel Monte Carlo Beach – Monaco

Monaco is this place on planet Earth where it is usual to cross a Ferrari on the street and where the water of the sea is coloured with an intense blue. It is in blue that India Mahdavi decided to dress the Monte Carlo Beach hotel. The space is large and airy, the big windows let the light coming in and the roof such as the walls are shaped as a shell. The place is inspired by calmness and serenity.
