Sometimes the most difficult part of home decorating is to know if it is enough or already too much. 1. Start with the carpet

Bikoff set the bedroom color paintings from the color of the carpet and then deconstructed it throughout the room.

2. Consider the mood

Once the ground color is selected, you can add complimentary colors to the palette. In Bikoff’s case she spread the African violet color to the carpet, pillows, vanity chair and stools and added lavender, grey and white to the rest of the bedroom design to get a more tranquil and calming effect.

3. Placement is key
When using monochromatic color schemes it is important to know how to apply different tones, using more calming and softer shades on the ceiling and wall decoration, and leaving the brighter hues for smaller pieces that you which to be noticed. The heart-shaped vanity chairs in this space are upholstered in the same purple cashmere fabric used on the chrome and brass stools. The neutral tone of the bed and dresser give your eye a rest.

4. Put your mirrors to work

According to Bikoff, mirrors and blue tones work well together “because it almost gives off a moonlit glow” to the house interior design.

5. Don’t rule out any hue
When you are in doubt, instead of leaving a color behind, “revert to nature” and discover the colors that look amazingly together, advises Bikoff.
