“Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself, but talent instantly recognizes genius”. It is thanks to this quote of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle from 1915 that the Villégiature Awards organization describe its action. Since 2003, the organization composed by 23 journalists coming from all around the world elect the most beautiful hotels around Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia. The awards are divided in different categories : “The best european hotel”, “The best hotel’s bar”, “The best hotel’s swimming pool” etc. Let’s take a look on the winner of the last edition and the candidates of the next one.
La Borde – Leugny (FR)
Nominated and then winner of the category “Best charming hotel of Europe” of the Villégiature Awards, La Borde next to Leugny in France is a mix between historical and modern architecture. Indeed, the old building of the 14th century was completely renovated and modernized with a big glass dome, a sports room, a seminar room and a heated swimming pool. The hotel is composed by 4 junior suite and a 2 bedrooms suite and the services inclued also the possibility to fly above all the region thanks to an helicopter.

The Hôtel du ministère – Paris (FR)
The Hôtel du ministère is a contemporary and design place on the heart of the 8th arrondissement in Paris. For the last edition of the Villégiature Awards, it won the price of the best hope and creativity in Europe and we understand easily why. The entire world speaks about it, from Vogue to Elle Japan, everyone is flattering this unique place, a colourful silence on the center of Paris. The Hôtel du Ministère is adapted for holidays as business trip, a small quiet courtyard allow the visitor to take some fresh air and the hotel offer plenty of services such as fitness courses, or a seminary room. A restaurant also offer the bread prepared with love by the chef Raoul Maeder named “Best baguette of Paris”.

The Royal Mansour – Marrakech (MR)
The Royal Mansour of Marrakech didn’t won the price for which one he was nominated – Best hotel in Africa – but he still deserves that we talk about it. This hotel is splendid, marvellous and radiant. A pearl in Africa. When you enter the Royal Mansour, you enter a dream, everything is made to celebrate the moroccan culture. Your home will be a riad, you’ll walk inside the Médina and take advantage of the Hammam. The hotel also own a restaurant managed by a well known french chef Yannick Alléno, who enjoy playing with the local codes to offer you an amazing gastronomical experience.

The Hôtel Métropole – Monaco (MN)
As the Royal Mansour, the Villégiature Award of the Best hôtel in Europe was not given to the Hôtel Métropole pof Monaco. However this splendid establishment deserve it as much as the Hotel Eden, the winner. The building has a strong history, that begun … with a pope. Yes, it is surprising. Build on the land of the Pope Leon XIII in 1886 by the Monte-Carlo Hotel Company Ltd, the place is ready to welcome the wave of wealthy clients that will invade soon the principality. In 2004, the hotel is modernized and open again under the name of Hôtel Métropole taking advantage of its strong history. The place offer to its clients an increadible confort and follow any requests to insure their absolut comfort.

Hotel Eden Dorchester Collection – Roma (IT)
Nominated in the category of the best architecture and design for the Villégiature Awards, the Hotel Eden in Roma was though by the french designers Bruno Moinard and Patrick Jouin. Opened in 1889 by a Munich-born hotelier, Francesco Niestelweck, the hotel took the advantage of the Industrial Revolution to welcome between its walls plenty of royals and celebrities. In 2003, purchased by Dorchester Collection, the hotel get more modern without loosing its historical charm. After 17 months of renovation, the hotel finally re-opened with a all new design by Patrick Jouin and Bruno Moinard.
