Yesterday, we got to find out the winners of the AHEAD Awards, one of the most important awards in the world of interior design. The event took place in The Meydan Hotel, in Dubai. As expected, it was a meeting of the best architects, designers, hotel owners, all in the name of bringing together the best of the best. The main goal was to honor those that lead the world’s most ambitious projects regarding hospitality. Come with us and find out about the amazing people behind each project!
Bar Club or Lounge – Flair No.5 at the Ritz-Carlton, DFIC, United Arab Emirates ( Ritz-Carlton Hotels & Resorts / LW Design)
We are already used to the mesmerizing projects of Riz-Carlton Hotel Company so it was really no suprise when they won the award for best bar, club or lounge. The American company designed Flair No. 5 together with LW Design (a magnificent design studio that works with clients such as Dubai Airports, Emirates, Richard Sandoval and Majid Al Futtaim) created a space that is called by many “The Urban Jungle in the Heart of Dubai” due to its herb-infused drinks and floral-inspired sharing menus.
Event Spaces – The Bvlgari Resort Dubai, United Arab Emirates (Meraas Holding / Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts / Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel)
Bvlgari Resorts needs no introduction. Their 5 star hotel in Dubai is definitely one of the most stunning in the entire world. It won best Event Spaces, and it’s easy to know why. The resort features a 360 square metre ballroom with room to seat 200 guests, as well as deluxe restaurants, perfect for events. The design was obtained after a fierce partnership between Meraas Holding, Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts and the fabulous architecture of Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel.
Guest Rooms – The Renaissance Downtown Dubai, United Arab Emirates (RDK / Marriott International / WA International)
Looking at the fabulous interior design of The Renaissance Downtown Dubai, it’s no wonder it won in the category of Best Guest Rooms. One of the responsible people for this dazzling mise en scène was Robert D. Kleinschmidt from RDK Design. The American architect teamed up with Marriot International, the biggest hotel chain in the world (their hotels are in 127 countries!).
Outdoor Spaces/Landscaping – Kempinski Hotel Muscat (Omani Hospitality Company / Kempinski Hotels / Woods Bagot / WSP)
The Kempinski Hotel Muscat is a 5 star hotel in Muscat. It’s located in Al Mouj, Muscat, and it has over six kilometers of stunning coastlin. The hotel features 310 comfortable rooms and suites, event facilities, a business centre, an executive lounge, restaurants and bars , swimming pools, a tennis court, a luxurious spa and a health club. The Omani Hospitality Company, the Kempinski Hotels, the australian Woods Bagot (specialized in the design and planning of buildings in many sectors such as aviation and transport, education, science and health, lifestyle and sports) and the WSP (a worldwide recognized professional services firm with 5000 experts) were the creators of this magnificent outdoor space and landscaping that won one of the AHEAD Awards.
Lobby and Public Spaces – Five Palm Jumeirah Dubai (FIVE Holdings / P&T Architects & Engineers / Yabu Pushelberg)
Another 5 star resort in Dubai is the FIVE Palm Jumeirah Hotel. It’s dazzling view and design definitely deserved the award for best Lobby and Public Spaces. The FIVE Holdings is a estate group especialized in development, hospitality, restructuring and investment, and its partnership with the Asian P&T Architects & Engineers (a company that has been working since the 19th century, and started working in Dubai in 2004) and with the Yabu Pushelberg (the responsible for the Four Seasons in Toronto) turned the place into one of the most luxury and gorgeous.
Lodges & Tented Camps – Bisate Eco Lodge, Ruhengeri, Rwanda (Wilderness Safaris / Nicholas Plewman Architects & Associates / Artichoke / Inzuki Designs)
The Bisate Eco Lodge is one of the most astonishing Eco Lodges in the entire world. It’s set in Rwanda. It won best Lodges & Tented Camps for it’s amazing place among nature. The ecoturism Wilderness Safaris founded in 1983, Nicholas Plewman Architects & Associates (that have worked on 35 projects across Southern and East Africa), Artichoke (that focus in kitchen design, that craft some of the most astonishing and high quality kitchen areas) and Inzuki Designs, a brand connected to the world of luxury in Rwuanda were the creators of this natural wonder, that must visited by everyone!
Renovation, Restoration and Conversion – The Silo, Cape Town, South Africa (V&A Waterfront / The Royal Portfolio / Heatherwick Studio / VDMMA / RBA / JPA / Liz Biden)
The Silo in Cape Town, South Africa won the award for Best Renovation, Restauration and Conversion. This was an effort project by 7 entities: V&A Waterfront (a mixed-use development that include amongst others residential and commercial property, hotels, leisure and entertainment facilities); The Royal Portfolio (that provides magnificents experiences to their clients like safaris, hotels and coastal activities); Thomas Heatherwick (the founder of the London-based Heatherwick Studio) was the designer of the building; Van Der Merwe Miszewski Architects, the award wining company based in South Africa that have worked on many residentials and corporates; the italian RBA, that also work with stategy when it comes to branding, packaging and retail; JPA (a multinational design company with an exceptional reputation in the transport and hospitality sectors); and last but not least the marvelous work of Liz Biden of The Royal Portfolio. The Silo was built in the grain elevator portion of the historic grain silo complex and it occupies six floors above Zeitz MOCAA (Museum of Contemporary Art Africa).
Resort Hotel – The Bvlgari Resort Dubai, United Arab Emirates (Meraas Holding / Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts / Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel)
Also not suprising was the Bvlgari Resort Dubai winning best Resort Hotel. The award went to the the already mentioned designers and companies. This was one of the three awards won by Bvlgari, the other one being event spaces and best suite.
Restaurant – Little Miss India At Airmont The Palm, United Arab Emirates (IFA Hotels & Resorts / Fairmont Hotels & Resorts / Stickman Tribe)
The gorgeous Litte Miss India is one of the most stunning decorated restaurantes we have ever seen. The award for best Restaurant could not have had a better winner. The space was designed by IFA Hotels & Resorts ( a worldwide leader in the development of mixed-use hotel and residential resort projects as well as luxury leisure services), the Fairmont Hotels & Resorts (that can provide you the most amazing experiences linked with unique architecture and structures) and the Stickman Tribe that are specialized in consultancy dedicated to both leisure and hospitality). Little miss India focus on regional Indian flavours, and its menu includes a selection of sharing style dishes, perfect for couples, groups of friends or family.
Spa & Wellness – The Spa at Five Palm Jumeirah Dubai, United Arab Emirates (FIVE Holdings / P&T Architects & Engineers / Yabu Pushelberg
Five Palm Jumeirah Dubai got to be the winner twice on the AHEAD Awards. It also won Spa & Wellness for it’s amazing Spa. It features wellness treatmeants such as holistic body and mind experiences like young and Pilates. You can also experiment massages, Natura Bissé facials and vitamin infusions. The spa also includes a rooftop pool with hydrotheraphy jets in order to elminate those remaining knots of tention. The responsibles for this fantastic place were the already mentioned FIVE HOLDINGS, P&T Architects & Enginners and Yabu Pushelberg, the fantastic canadian duo, able to bring the come up the most brilliant design ideas, having projects in 16 countries.
Suite – Bvlgari Suite at the Bvlgari Resort Dubai, United Arab Emirates (Meraas Holding / Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts / Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel)
The third award to Bvlgari Resort Dubai was best suite. The fabulous hotel was once again awarded by the fantastic collaboration between Meeras Holding, Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts and Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel.
Urban Hotel – Form Hotel Dubai, United Arab Emirates (Dubai Contracting Company / KAY Real Estate Development / Smartotels Hospitality International / Architecture-Studio)
The last award we present you is best urban hotel. The recipient was the Form Hotel Dubai, that was designed by the Dubai Contracting Company (a leading Middle Eastern construction company headquartered in Dubai that specialise in building residential, commercial, mixed-use building, hospitality and leisure complexes), the KAY Real Estate Development (a privately held, full service real estate development group, aiming to provide the highest possible standard of services in the industry), the Smartotels Hospitality International (a hospitality and asset management firm headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, that provides comprehensive management services focusing on developing and operating hotels) and the Architecture-Studio (the french Architecture, that owns 14 partners among which works a team of architects, urban planners, interior designers, quantity surveyors and sustainable design specialists of twenty five different nationalities).
