The Puces de Saint-Ouen: The World’s Attic Comes to Life

One of the most exciting additions to this year’s event is the presence of the Puces de Saint-Ouen, the world’s largest antiques market. This market, also known as the “world’s attic,” is brimming with one-of-a-kind and high-quality items. The Puces de Saint-Ouen, in collaboration with Maison&Objet, will transport visitors to a world where history and modernity collide.

Medhy Allaouchiche, Chairman of the Marché aux Puces, emphasises the importance of this collaboration, citing the growing influence of second-hand goods on French lifestyles. “Good things happen to those who wait!” Flea markets were ahead of their time in this regard,” he observes, reflecting on the findings of a recent survey, which revealed a preference for physical venues over online platforms for finding secondhand treasures. This collaboration emphasises the market’s role as a design museum, where visitors can browse a diverse range of items, including mirrors, chandeliers, and one-of-a-kind furniture pieces.

During the Maison&Objet fair, the Puces de Saint-Ouen will be displayed in Hall 7B Unique & Eclectic under the theme “A Room with a View.” This presentation will include authentic and emblematic pieces from various markets, resulting in a hotel suite-inspired scenography that highlights Les Puces’ eclecticism and richness.

Contemporary Design at the Hôtel de la Marine

Paris Design Week expands into the historic Hôtel de la Marine, where modern design will pay homage to this 18th-century marvel. Renowned designers Pierre Renart and Studio Uchronia will create site-specific artworks based on the building’s history as a royal furniture repository.

Studio Uchronia will transform the main courtyard with a large canopy bed art installation that combines bright colours and historical elements. Meanwhile, Pierre Renart will present a hammock in the Cour de l’Intendant, made of hornbeam wood and inspired by the building’s diamond-shaped glass roof. These installations promise to be both visually stunning and thought-provoking, prompting visitors to consider the intersection of history and modern design.

Open-Air Graphic Design: Art Takes to the Streets

For the second consecutive year, graphic design will adorn the walls of Paris, transforming the city into an open-air gallery. Various graphic artists will exhibit their work throughout the urban landscape in collaboration with the City of Paris’ Design, Fashion, and Fine Craft Office and the Écrire la Ville association.

The former Caserne des Minimes in the Marais neighbourhood will house a variety of graphic art installations, ranging from Japanese sewage drain-inspired designs to brightly coloured graphics. Visitors are encouraged to participate in these installations, resulting in a truly interactive experience. Furthermore, the Librairie Eyrolles bookshop and the Ecole d’art Publique de la Ville de Paris will host live events and exhibitions, adding to the open-air graphic design circuit.

Paul Cocksedge at the Hôtel de Sully: A Playful Exploration

British artist and designer Paul Cocksedge will transform the Renaissance setting of the Hôtel de Sully, bringing his playful and innovative style to this historic venue. Cocksedge, known for his spectacular installations and inventive use of materials, will design a series of reflective surfaces that interact with the architecture, the sky, and the visitors themselves.

Reflecting on the value of play, Cocksedge invites everyone to interact with his installation, which transforms simple mirrors into elements that interact with their surroundings. This installation promises to be a standout at Paris Design Week, encouraging visitors to reconnect with their inner child and see design in a new light.

Renault Electrifies Paris Design Week

Renault will commemorate the launch of the electric Renault 5 E-Tech with a pop-up store called MAISON5. This space, housed in a former industrial workshop, will showcase a vibrant mix of automotive design and lifestyle. MAISON5 provides a wide range of experiences that highlight the intersection of design and technology, including driving simulators, culinary delights, music, and fashion.
