Martin Brudnizki is an internationally acclaimed interior architecture and design studio based in London and New York. Founded by Martin Brudnizki in 2000, the team is composed of over 70 interior designers, architects, lighting designers, product designers and art consultants and has experience creating hotels, restaurants, bars, private members’ clubs; alongside residential developments and helping a select number of people design their dream homes. At the heart of the studio’s work is a profound commitment to the individual and their experience of an interior. Through the careful study of a project’s context and a client’s lifestyle, a dedication to functionality and love of layering different materials, textures and styles, Martin Brudnizki hand-crafts environments that enable their clients to develop personal and long-lasting relationships with their interior spaces. The studio works across the world with notable clients including Four Seasons, Rosewood Hotels and Resorts, Six Senses Luxury Resorts, Soho House Group, The Birley Group, Caprice Holdings, Sydell Group, Beaumarly Group, The Surf Club, Andrew Carmellini, Royal Academy of Arts, Nobu Matsuhisa and Daniel Boulud.
Martin Brudnizki’s love for design started at a young age. His mother was a stylist and his father a mechanical engineer; the combination of these elements embedded a deep understanding of aesthetics alongside a grounding in functionality. He enrolled at The American University in London to study Interior Architecture where he was deeply inspired by an eclectic range of architects and designers, including Carlo Scarpa, Paul Dupree-Lafon and Dorothy Draper. Following a number of successful positions at renowned interior design firms, Martin established his eponymous studio in London in 2000 and a New York Studio in 2012. Through this experience Martin Brudnizki has acquired a high level of expertise in the design and realisation of high-profile and luxury schemes, always reducing the complexity of any project to simple design solutions.
Situated in the exciting new Nine Elms development, Linnaean is a new wellness salon and cafe concept designed by Martin Brudnizki. Named after the Swedish botanist, Carl Linnaeus – the father of modern taxonomy, Linnaean embodies the pioneering spirit of Linnaeus, breathing new life into the luxury salon and beauty treatment scene. Through introducing a casual dining concept, visitors are encouraged to relax and luxuriate in the comfort of Linnaean, extending their stay and reaping the benefits of the relaxing ambience. Split across two floors, Linnaean offers a hair salon, treatment rooms, manicure and pedicure stations, a retail area and a standalone café. Utilising clean lines with a fresh colour palette of greens and soft coral tones, the whole space feels welcoming, bright and enriching. Limed timber, rattan and woven leather bring a tactile element to the design whilst vibrant ceramic tiles and terrazzo stone ensure the look is refreshing and contemporary. Soft upholstery, featuring botanic motifs, a nod to Linnaean’s distinctive heritage and contemporary artwork by female artists complete the look.
Inspired by the elegance and sophistication of Fortnum & Mason’s iconic Piccadilly store, Martin Brudnizki helped the Royal grocers introduce their brand to Asia. Situated in the ultra-modern K11 Musea on Hong Kong’s picturesque Victoria Harbour, the new Fortnum & Mason stands as a beacon of English hospitality in a burgeoning market. Split across two floors, with panoramic views of the Hong Kong skyline, Fortnum & Mason comprises a full shop floor and a separate restaurant, 181, serving lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Blending together the original store’s Georgian design influences with eastern inflexions, moments of joy and innovation, the shop floor effectively contrasts against the ultra-modern external architecture. A ruby red woollen carpet flows throughout and pops against eau-de-nil walls and brings to life the innovative display items, including a fresh pass, tea counter and whimsical champagne display. Ascending a sweeping staircase with hand-painted mural detailing by Melissa White, guests will arrive at 181 Restaurant. The restaurant is filled with natural light, thanks to fully-glazed windows and a soft colour palette of pale green which tones effortlessly against a striking cream and gold veined marble at the bar. Pops of burnt orange leather and a unique art collection create a sense of harmony and elegance, encouraging guests to sit back and relax.
81 Dean Street harks back to the inter-war intermezzo, where Soho gained its reputation as a melting pot for London’s artists and intellectuals. The 16 apartments and two penthouses showcase post-modern interiors that combine an art deco inspired Soho loft design with classical detailing to create dynamic yet comfortable spaces, perfect for relaxing with a book or recreating the Roaring Twenties. Using subtle and intelligent design details, 81 Dean Street allows owners to enjoy their apartments in a timeless fashion. Antique reclaimed oak floors, simple yet strong whites and light greys on the walls alongside wood panelling provide an elegant back-drop from where the cast iron and stone staircase with Belle Epoch detailing, tall leather doors and polished brass light fixtures offer eye-catching details; symbolising the synthesis of the modern and classical styles that these apartments embody.
Martin Brudnizki was asked to design Hartnett Holder & Co, the restaurant at Lime Wood Hotel in the heart of the New Forest National Park. The restaurant is a collaboration between Michelin-starred chef Angela Hartnett and Lime Wood’s Chef, Luke Holder. The design took inspiration from the building’s Regency architecture and from the restaurant’s locally sourced, simple dishes. The studio introduced a dark-stained, oak-panelled bar topped with an Irish green marble to the dining space alongside bespoke furniture upholstered in rough linens and patterned fabrics to bring an unpretentious sense of English eccentricity.
The Miami outpost of this famous London restaurant, Cecconi’s sits on the ground floor of Soho Beach House located on Collins Avenue in South Beach, Miami. To evoke the signature glamour of the restaurant’s London parent, but with a fresh Miami angle, the use of vibrant colours and patterns by way of an encaustic tiled two-coloured diagonally striped floor and custom-designed furniture was introduced and set amongst lush vegetation and silver button trees from which hang ‘glass jar’ lights and other lighting features. At night, with the twinkling lights illuminated, the hotel’s courtyard is transformed into a unique and magical space.
The Confidante is a 380-room oceanfront hotel that re-establishes the ideals of 1950s glamour. Located in a building that is one part Art Deco, one part Miami modernism, one part 21st Century design and with a touch of Spanish revival, the interior is truly postmodern and reflects the rich architectural history of the building. The design takes influences from the mid-century resort style of the city’s heyday and fuses it with the glamour, texture, colour and comfort of the tropics to create a stylish and eclectic Miami Beach look. Martin Brudnizki was responsible for designing the entire hotel, including; communal areas, pool and beach area, spa, Seagrape restaurant, meeting rooms and all bedrooms and suites.
Taking residency at the landmark The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, Brasserie Prince by Alain Roux is a classic eatery inspired by the French bistro scene. Comprising a restaurant, lounge and bar, Martin Brudnizki‘s first project to break ground in Scotland transports the look of London’s smartest nightlife haunts to the Scottish capital. Amid a striped coffered ceiling, high-gloss lacquer and timber panelled walls, traditional banquettes and room-length mirrors, the dining space is flushed with tones of soft blues, greens and blush pink. Natural timber, soft leather and mohair wool synonymous with Scotland’s heritage have been integrated to reflect the rich history of the building, acclaimed as one of the great railway hotels dating back to 1902. The adjoining bar and lounge, a destination venue in its own right, was designed to reflect a convivial yet informal backdrop. The light-filled space provides a variety of seating options including traditional banquettes and leather upholstered furniture, in addition to custom table lamps by Porta Romana and wall covering by House of Hackney. A large selection of original artwork by home-grown artists including Calum McClure, Ian Houston and Tom Campbell form an integral part of the design and the venue’s heritage.
Martin Brudnizki worked with Gordon Campbell Gray on this luxury residential development in Amman, Jordan. From state-of-the-art appliances to cool gleaming marble floors to supple, inviting leather touches, the furnishings in each of the one, two and three-bedroom apartments are opulent and stunning. Exceptional shared amenities and services are found throughout the building, from the 24 hours attended lobby and concierge service to the landscaped rooftop pool and sundeck. Together, these exquisite details make Campbell Gray Living one of the most coveted residences in Amman, designed for the global elite. Designed to deliver comfort, convenience and contemporary living with an accent on elegance, each residence is stylishly appointed with furnishings crafted from premium materials.
Martin Brudnizki was asked by Richard Caring to redesign the restaurant, bar and lounge of his famous golf club. The beautiful champagne bar, crafted using elegant patterned wall panels, onyx and white lacquer with brushed brass detailing gives the space a glamorous revival. The adjacent dining room achieves a rich sense of depth with carved mirrored wall panels in rich colours of gold and silver. The comfortably spaced dining tables create a relaxed environment to enjoy the inspiring decor. Handcrafted furniture and lighting used throughout heighten the beautifully ornamental, yet informal feel of the club.
Located over three floors above the famous Ivy restaurant and composed of a lounge bar, restaurant, private dining room and terrace, Martin Brudnizki created this private members’ club to be a warm and comfortable sanctuary in the midst of London. Housing an impressive collection of young and established British artwork, the design of the Club was based on the 1930s style of The Ivy restaurant below. The studio continued timber panelling through the 2nd and 3rd floors and created a more contemporary interior for the 4th floor. All furniture found throughout the space was custom designed by Martin Brudnizki who also collaborated with Paola Petrobelli on the ceiling light fixtures. For the entrance lobby, a 1970s Venini chandelier was found and restored to greet members and their guests on entry.
Debuting its first UK opening, Smith & Wollensky is a 300-cover American steak restaurant situated in the Adelphi Building behind The Strand. Echoing the architecture of the building, the restaurant’s décor subtly nods to the Art Deco period, most notably through the use of real copper leaf detailing on the ceiling and an intricate monochrome mosaic marble bar flooring in the centre of the room, framed in timber. A classic aesthetic runs throughout with the addition of timber wall panelling and an impressive central bar. A blackened steel bar crafted from antique copper and brass with a neutral Carrara top also provides a focal point to Smith & Wollensky. Complemented by blacked mirror panelling, the bar area provides a social exchange for all. Spread over two floors, the large space also includes three private dining rooms which are all adaptable, according to party size.
Inspired by the grandiose homes and gardens in Bellagio, Italy and the whirlwind glamour and excitement of Las Vegas, The Mayfair Club is a fine-dining restaurant at Bellagio Hotel. Reinventing the traditional concept of dinner and dancing, The Mayfair Club is located on the ground floor of The Bellagio with unbeatable views across to the iconic fountain display. Arriving at the bar lounge, guests are transported to a world inspired by mythology and tales of the sea. A richly patterned carpet meanders through the restaurant floor with sea-inspired motifs dotted throughout, including coral-inspired wall lights and a Murano glass bar canopy. A mixture of sofa and armchair seating create cosy nooks for intimate gatherings whilst large banquettes provide the perfect situation for parties. A statement bar with a glass mosaic front and Murano glass canopy complements the colour scheme of greens and pinks. In the dining area scalloped edged banquettes in sumptuous red velvet are paired with contrasting green dining chairs, whilst timber tables exude glamour and sophistication. Over-sized glass chandeliers hang overhead, bathing diners in a warm, comfortable light. Diners are able to enjoy live entertainment thanks to a dedicated stage area and a statement bar with eglomise detailing and hammered brass front to ensure guests are catered for all night.
Located on the Athenian Riviera, Four Seasons Astir Palace is a hotel with a glamorous heritage that has recently undergone a full refurbishment. Split across two sites, Nafsika and Arion, Martin Brudnizki design for the hotel’s signature F&B spaces include Pelagos, Mercato and Avra – a sleek waterfront lounge with views over the Saronic Gulf. Located in the Arion wing, Pelagos features a timber panelled ceiling, which mimes the shape of a boat’s hull and a marble patterned floor inspired by traditional boat sails. The hotel’s strong affinity with the region’s maritime heritage is reflected in the restaurant’s menu, which specialises in sophisticated seafood fare. Leather banquette seating in tones of honey blend effortlessly with high-gloss tables that feature rivet detailing, whilst an impressive teal-marble and brass-topped bar adds a focal point to the restaurant floor. Located in the Nafsika wing, Mercato features a warm colour palette of azure-blue and ochre with marble working together with leather and brass. Banquette seating and larger tables provide opportunities for parties to dine in a communal fashion, whilst guests in small groups can dine in a more intimate setting. The restaurant opens out onto a nautical-themed terrace area, where guests can take in the breath-taking views of the Riviera all whilst sitting back in comfort on upholstered armchairs and sofas.
