This Gulf Coast penthouse includes a large entertaining space, a spectacular master suite and multiple guest suites, all with amazing ocean views. Fine art and contemporary photography were acquired for this collector to complement an existing group of works by Joan Miró. Suzanne Lovell Inc. invigorated this lakefront residence in a full-scale renovation and specified an impressive collection of Art Deco and Modern furniture in close partnership with sophisticated Clients. This project, housed in a pre-war building by esteemed architect Howard Van Doren Shaw, won the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art Acanthus Award for Excellence in Interior Design in 2016.

Influences of Eastern and European cultures are evident in this large residence that we crafted for their well-travelled client. warmed up this expansive volume by selecting a toned French limestone floor and rich walnut architectural elements. Southeast Asian gates, a bust of Shiva and a carved Asian centre table intermingle with a fine art collection that includes portraiture by Matisse, Toulouse Lautrec, Vik Muniz and Candida Hofer, creating a dynamic series of juxtapositions and cultural references.
Suzanne Lovell started her business in 1985, focusing on residential architecture and interior design, and her practice evolved to include a fine art collection advisory.
Conceived as a contemporary expression of a Japanese box, this Modern home reveals a synthesis from a well-curated collection of fine art and antiques. This landmark residence in Chicago’s Lincoln Park was renovated to provide a serene, sophisticated backdrop for the client’s prized collection of Native American artefacts, Navajo textiles, vessels and photographs by Edward Curtis. This residence won the Illinois Landmark Preservation Award of Excellence.
Lovell creates couture residences which reflect a masterful approach to architectural detailing and an imaginative dialogue around her clients’ integrated experience of place.
The classically elegant Lake Shore Drive property was reinvigorated through the addition of cerused white oak millwork, darkening the wood floor and by adding a layer of subtle textures and patterns executed in bronze, plaster, stone, wallcoverings and fabrics. The Client’s family home becomes light and bright as their prized fine art collection is featured. This owner’s suite at the legendary St. Regis was meticulously renovated to create a glamorous New York Pied-à-terre.
She is an Architectural Digest Top 100 Interior Architect, and as of two years now she inaugurated into the Chicago Merchandise Mart Hall of Fame. Suzanne Lovell‘s office was listed as one of the “Coolest Offices” in Chicago in 2018 by Crain’s Chicago Business.
With fantastic views of Lake Geneva from each room, this Modern residence was designed to eliminate the boundary between the interior and exterior through the use of a simplified material palette, large expanses of glass, and Slide and Fold Doors that permit spaces to open fully to the outdoors and the pool area.
