Frame Awards needs no introduction and today we are going to showcase two projects by Ahead Concept Design that have gained the coveted spot of being in the nominees for residential design.

Ahead Concept Design was founded in 2007 and since then has created spaces with value and depth, with flexible cultural codes, successfully proving their clients with innovative strategies and business models.

Ahead Concept Design is known for designing innovative and exquisite atmospheres so it is no wonder that two of their projects are nominated for the Frame Awards 2021.

First off we are going to start with Stage – a residential project for a private client. Located in Taipei, Taiwan, this residential project harmonises functionality with elegance and comfort. The design team wanted to do something different, so they researched opera house furnishing styles and paintings depicting performances.

The spatial layout in this unique residence is different from a typical plan: space is divided by skewed walls and some can be seen from one side to the other and some are solid. The floor material includes terrazzo and wood in several parquet patterns.

Different from the usual way of presenting residences, Stage has added more to the imagination; creating an imaginary field representing the internal desire of the host, just like walking into a movie with its own storyline.

The other project is Golden Stream, that blends the Bauhaus functional aesthetics with movie plots, the whole project is a nod to futuristic nostalgia. Inside the apartment, there are endless references to jazz, machine-age style and metropolitan culture, but also the exquisiteness of the Bauhaus’ functional language.

With retro decor and warm colours, the Golden Stream showcase a strong personality composed of bold details, such as the dual colour floor tiling with wooden grins or the turquoise lines on the door frame. In the whole apartment, a serpent winding stainless steel tube remains one of the most striking aspects of the apartment, enhancing its visual fluidity. 

The soft saturated colours for gauze drapes, furniture, functional wall shelves, and the door of the master bedroom are combined to turn to cover both functionality and decorativeness. It shows a natural structural aesthetics. The major design ideas are the interchange between imagination and reality, brave and dauntless, and breaking out from any existing constraints.
