Gulla Jonsdottir is an architect and designer known for creating unexpected and marvellous, modern designs from her studio in Los Angeles. Notorious for her sensual and dynamic forms that work in harmony with their surroundings, Gulla’s Jonsdottir environmental compassion brings unique spatial experiences that harmonize with the surrounding site, always echoing the integration of organic beauty and function.
Born in Iceland, Gulla Jonsdottir studied mathematics and biology before moving to Los Angeles to study architecture at the Southern California Institute of Architecture. Before opening her own firm, the designer worked for Richard Meier and Partners, Walt Disney Imagineering, and Dodd Mitchell Design.
Gulla Jonsdottir Design has a reputation for a comprehensive work across the fields of hospitality, commercial, and residential design as well as having their own furniture design. The studio works on multiple projects worldwide.
Being selected as one of Top 50 Firms in Interior Design’s Power Grid, Los Angeles, Gulla Jonsdottir has in her career received several awards including Interior Design’s Best of Year, Architectural Digest Best Bar in America for La Peer Hotel, Interior Design’s Nomination for Best Urban Boutique, Interior Design’s Gold Key Award for Best Spa Design.
Some of Gulla Jonsdottir Design most notable projects are – The 2 Michelin star Le Grand Restaurant, by Jean-Francois Piege in Paris; La Peer Hotel in West Hollywood, The Macau Roosevelt hotel in China, Comal at Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Los Cabos, Mexico, Hotel G Penthouses in San Francisco, and the Renovation of the Chinese Theater in Hollywood.
