11 Howard, is a 221-room boutique property in New York City’s fashionable SoHo district, combines cutting-edge Scandinavian design with socially conscious hyperlocalism. More than just an ideal vantage point for downtown exploration, the property is an art spectacle in itself and a community hub partnered with a range of local businesses and nonprofits. Set to open in April of 2016, 11 Howard Hotel describes its raison d’etre as “conscious hospitality.” Here youcan find Interior Design Tips From Soho New York’s 11 Howard Hotel.
What’s the meaning of conscious hospitality? “It means that we approach each aspect of the hotel—from design to location to amenities to our ultramodern brand of service—with awareness, purpose, and thoughtful consideration. This consciousness reaches beyond the property to the community, motivating us to give back to charitable organizations who are doing important work. In fact, when guests book directly with 11 Howard, we donate a portion of the money to charity.”
The Danish studio SPACE in collaboration with the creative director Anda Andrei worked on designing the spaces and furniture for the hotel from real estate mogul Aby Rosen.
You can clearly see this scandinavian DNA in the bespoke furniture created using stone, wood and leather to complement its interiors.
“We’re really interested in materials – stone, woods, leathers,” said Space Copenhagen co-founder Signe Bindslev Henriksen. “We love things that age well. It’s part of our responsibility that a project lives on in a beautiful manner long after we’ve left.”
The studio created a range of custom furniture, handmade in Denmark, for the rooms. Adapted from its Fly collection for Danish brand & tradition, the lounge pieces are made from oiled oak to add to the light colour palette of the walls and flooring.
