House Decor Styles<\/em><\/strong><\/span> are better when they come from the best, and
Foster + Partners are one of them!
They are a global studio for sustainable architecture, engineering, urbanism and industrial design, founded by Norman Foster in 1967. They have an international practice with a worldwide reputation. With offices across the globe \u2013 including Singapore \u2013 they work as a single studio that is both ethnically and culturally diverse.
We gathered in this article some inspiration from their incredible projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

100 East 53rd Street<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This 61-storey residential tower explores the dynamic between the city and its skyline. With a total of 94 apartments, two main design<\/strong> typologies distinguish them. \u2018Loft Apartments\u2019 are inspired by New York\u2019s downtown industrial loft-style living with art <\/em>gallery type spaces and finishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Capella Resort <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In the theme of restoration and intervention in historical buildings, the design of the six-star Capella Resort brings together <\/em>old and new in a tropical context. It integrates two Tanah Merah military buildings \u2013 dating from the 1880s and built as recreational spaces for officers \u2013 with a hotel, villas, extensive event spaces and a spa. Malay for \u2018red earth\u2019, Tanah Merah is a reference to Singapore\u2019s lateritic soil, whose colour is reflected in the terracotta roofs of the region\u2019s colonial architecture.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dolunay Villa<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The design<\/strong> of Dolunay Villa uses the natural contours of the site to create a low-rise building that appears as a single storey structure on approach. The house is embedded within a beautiful Mediterranean garden that offers a multisensory experience<\/em> with fragrant plants such as thyme and lavender alongside rich seasonal planting and mature olive trees. The main entrance takes you directly to the heart of the villa with the private family quarters to the eastern side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Duisburg Housing<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In 1991, the practice designed a masterplan for the reinvention of an 89-hectare site in Duisburg\u2019s Inner Harbour \u2013 the largest inland harbour in the world. The Inner Harbour masterplan transforms<\/em> an industrial landscape in decline into a thriving, mixed-use urban quarter.
The design concept reflects the industrial character of the retained warehouses to the north and contemporary <\/strong>residential developments and park to the south by alternating opaque and transparent materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development of this project comprises 41 luxury<\/strong> apartments, arranged above two storeys of residents\u2019 facilities \u2013 these include a spa, pool and state-of-the-art fitness centre. The lower levels are elevated above a tranquil natural landscape<\/em> of native planting, grasses and lily ponds, which flow beneath the building and cool the entrance spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kawana house, with its adjoining guesthouse, is the result of a fusion<\/strong> <\/em>of two traditions: the Japanese love of harmony and respect for nature and the Western refinement of a dematerialised architecture<\/em> of steel and glass. Situated on a dramatic stretch of volcanic coastline where long, inaccessible fingers of lava jut into Sagami Bay, the change in levels across the site and the views out to sea are central to the project\u2019s design. Set on a raised platform, the house is positioned so that the main living areas have uninterrupted views out to sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kamakura House<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Designed for a Japanese collector of modern and Buddhist art, this house was conceived as a contemporary <\/em>retreat with traditional influences. The house occupies a site rich<\/strong> with historical associations, including a Shinto shrine and man-made caves that once formed part of a workshop for crafting samurai swords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leedon Park House<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Combining discreet family accommodation with generous spaces for entertaining, the design of this house in Leedon Park balances the constraints of the site with the alternating requirements for privacy and transparency. Leedon Park is characterised by detached, low-rise houses set back from the road, but the house owes more to the simplicity<\/strong> of a Thai sala and the concept of an adaptive architecture<\/em> than any local style<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The South Beach development covers an entire city block between the Marina and Civic District in the heart of downtown Singapore. Combining new construction<\/em> with the restoration of existing buildings, the mixed-use,<\/strong> energy-efficient new urban quarter brings together places to live and work with shops, cafes, restaurants, a hotel and public spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Murray Building is a luxury<\/em> 336-room hotel located on the southern edge of Central with panoramic views of The Peak and the gardens to the south and stunning uninterrupted harbour views to the north. This major transformation of the listed building aims to reinvent<\/strong> this abandoned urban quarter \u2013 stitching together the urban fabric by linking the large green spaces flanking the site to the east and west.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
