But in creating this new design, Dove channeled the 1970s, and specifically the likes of Truman Capote and Lee Radziwill, whom he could easily imagine attending functions at this type of house. Peacock, whose company specializes in custom-built cabinetry of all types, continues on to add that this time around, \u201cI wanted something that was a little bit more personal to me, and that really tapped into family experience.\u201d The most notable homage to Peacock\u2019s parents comes in the form of the kitchen island, which on its far side reads, \u201cIt is what it is,\u201d his father\u2019s signature saying. But\u00a0Vicente Wolf\u2019s took an opposite track, when transforming the house\u2019s breakfast area into \u201cThe Dreaming Room,\u201d as he calls it. Instead of a table well-equipped to send kids off to school, you\u2019ll find\u00a0Kohler\u2019s large Ceric bathtub at the center of it all. The paneled walls have been painted a deep purple\u2014offsetting the marble mantel and lush green plants installed.\u00a0In a sense, the dichotomies depicted, which include Wolf\u2019s intended sense of yin and yang, perhaps sum up the room best.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_57158\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 760px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brabbu.com\/usa-ny?utm_source=brabbublog&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_term=dnovo&amp;utm_content=article&amp;utm_campaign=blogscontent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-57158 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-6-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-6-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-6-1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\"><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Topher Delaney Design<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Delaney was in part inspired by the magnolias that can be seen up above the space. This then prompted her to work with Bay Area ceramicist\u00a0Jessica\u00a0Abbott\u00a0Williams\u00a0to create custom ceramic plates and resin hangings that depict the same type of flowering plant. The resin hangings are unusual in that pieces of this sort aren\u2019t generally used in exteriors. The plates, which depict the same style of line-drawn artistry, are offset by\u00a0Chilewich\u00a0place mats. \u201cWe\u2019re riffing on people who put chargers up on their walls,\u201d Delaney explains. \u201cExcept this is about nature.\u201d\u00a0Nearby, a heated seat is apt to set guests at ease, while down below the deck, Delaney\u2019s composition really takes off. \u201cWe\u2019re builders,\u201d First, there is a trompe l\u2019oeil wooden log that makes for its own fireplace.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_57159\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 760px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brabbu.com\/usa-ny?utm_source=brabbublog&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_term=dnovo&amp;utm_content=article&amp;utm_campaign=blogscontent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-57159 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-7-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-7-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-7-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\"><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Brian Gluckstein Design<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis carpet was shipped to Alaska instead of New York.\u201d These are practically the first words to come out of\u00a0Brian Gluckstein\u2019s mouth, when explaining the unexpected journey that the pi\u00e8ce de r\u00e9sistance of his spiral staircase took before ending up on the Upper East Side. However, the custom rug by The Rug Company arrived just in time, magically transforming the space with a fan-inspired design that appears to unfold as it spreads out over four stories. The archival estate of\u00a0Jeremiah Goodman, the American interior studio portrait painter, supplied the works hung on the walls, whose faux paneling was inspired by that of\u00a0Jean-Michel Frank. Vintage sconces add light, while the pi\u00e8ce de r\u00e9sistance is arguably the central chandelier. Suspended from above, 4,000 brass cherry blossoms hang\u2014each of which is secured by a single crystal.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_57160\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 760px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brabbu.com\/usa-ny?utm_source=brabbublog&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_term=dnovo&amp;utm_content=article&amp;utm_campaign=blogscontent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-57160 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-8-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-8-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-8-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\"><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Jeff Lincoln Design<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"wp-volt-gal-promo-title\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jeff Lincoln\u00a0took on a stately window-clad room on the house\u2019s second floor to create an expansive living room design. It was the perfect setting to show off works from his gallery, which specializes in new design pieces made by living contemporary artists. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to do any kind of mix,\u201d Lincoln says. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to do a French \u201940s console with a contemporary painting. That\u2019s just been done, and done really well.\u201d While Lincoln does do that sort of interior in his own practice, he was most interested in contemporary design for this space.\u201cThe room is meant to show for collectors the connection between contemporary art and collectible design,\u201d he says.<\/div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_57161\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 760px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brabbu.com\/usa-ny?utm_source=brabbublog&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_term=dnovo&amp;utm_content=article&amp;utm_campaign=blogscontent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-57161 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-9-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"507\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-9-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-9-1-300x203.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\"><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Cullman &amp; Kravis\u2019 Lee Cavanaugh, Alyssa Urban, Katie Sutton, and Dani Mazza Design<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To create the \u201cRhapsody in Blue\u201d dining room,\u00a0Cullman &amp; Kravis\u2019 Lee Cavanaugh, Alyssa Urban, Katie Sutton, and Dani Mazza all came together to work in collaboration. The four women were drawn to the rooms\u2019 height, as well as its round and square elements. On one wall, an antique mantelpiece from\u00a0Maison Gerard\u00a0serves as an anchor, while bay windows frame an adjacent side. A\u00a0Fred Brouard\u00a0piece draws its own aura of attention at the center of the room, while gold paillettes help lighten the room\u2019s purposefully dark palette\u2014made possible in large part thanks to Dedar\u2019s fabric.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_57162\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 760px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brabbu.com\/usa-ny?utm_source=brabbublog&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_term=dnovo&amp;utm_content=article&amp;utm_campaign=blogscontent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-57162 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-10-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-10-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-10-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\"><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Corey Damen Jenkins Design<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Corey Damen Jenkins stated\u00a0\u201cI thought, why not flip it, and make it a lady\u2019s lair or a lady\u2019s library?\u201d. All around, the evidence of Jenkins\u2019s efforts is clear. A Valentino gown inspired the custom curtains by\u00a0The Shade Store, while\u00a0Benjamin Moore\u2019s Pink Swirl paint was used in some areas. Beautiful late-19th-century antique Asian screens are incorporated, as is an antique writing desk that dates back to 1926. There\u2019s also a white-leopard-print rug, of which Jenkins jokes, \u201cNo snow leopards were killed in the making of this room.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_57163\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 760px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brabbu.com\/usa-ny?utm_source=brabbublog&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_term=dnovo&amp;utm_content=article&amp;utm_campaign=blogscontent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-57163 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-11-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-11-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-11-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\"><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Charlotte Moss Design<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"grid grid-margins grid-items-0\">\n<div class=\"grid--item body body__container article__body\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It came at me from different places,\u201d\u00a0Charlotte Moss\u00a0says of her design inspiration for the house\u2019s master bedroom. \u201cThen I found this fabric on Instagram,\u201d she says of the bed\u2019s lavender palampore hangings, which ultimately gave Moss her palette. Moss\u2019s palette was further confirmed when she saw Lady\u2019s Gaga\u2019s periwinkle dress at the Golden Globes. After that, she set out looking for periwinkle gingham, which appoints the room\u2019s walls, and ultimately had to be woven in the U.K. \u201cSo many of the things in this room are things that I own,\u201d Moss continues, citing the Suzani textiles as one example. Some of the furniture seen are also her own designs from her\u00a0Century collection, such as one particularly useful petite end table. A\u00a0Miriam Ellner\u00a0fireplace and new plaster crown moldings easily catch the viewer\u2019s eye. Robinson designed the room\u2019s desk and had the couch custom-made. \u201cIt\u2019s a mixture of contemporary and vintage furnishings,\u201d she explains, noting that the chairs were borrowed from\u00a0Donzella, while the cocktail table is vintage. The rug is from\u00a0Crosby Street Studio,\u00a0Jeff Zimmerman\u00a0created the lights, and the end table was sourced from\u00a0KGBL. For designers Alexandra Pappas and Tatyana Miron, that was the good thing\u2014as was the room\u2019s adjacent bathroom, for which\u00a0Stone Solutions\u00a0in Yonkers, New York, fabricated the gorgeous sink. Flos\u00a0lights counterbalance an antique chandelier, for starters. Elsewhere, a rug, which the duo happened upon while visiting a dealer in Stanford, New York, plays off the room\u2019s dominant use of stone. A Venetian beaded mirror, which Miron stumbled upon while on a run on New Year\u2019s Day, perhaps has the best backstory, however. (Four trips to the shop later, and the mirror was hers.) Fifties lounge chairs from\u00a0Guy Regal\u00a0make for a lovely pair, while Todd Merrill\u2019s sofas helps anchor the room.\u00a0Studio Van den Akker\u00a0is responsible for the cocktail table, while\u00a0Dedar\u00a0and\u00a0Holly Hunt\u00a0are behind the window seat and window treatments, respectively. Zunino, whose partner in work and in life is Damian Zunino, astutely notes that working with this room was a nice fit for the firm, considering the fact that they deal with both interiors and architecture. Throughout, small and thoughtful touches abound on either side of the Kohler claw-foot tub. Custom tiles by\u00a0Alison Rose of Artistic Tile\u00a0were used in the bathroom. And thanks to\u00a0De Gournay, an interior created by Elsie de Wolfe for Marlene Dietrich, and the wallpaper used for that project specifically, has received a reinterpretation. (As a thoughtful touch, an image of Dietrich in front of the wallpaper was incorporated into the room.) Across the way, a U-shaped couch, designed by the couple, has magically found its way into the space. Navy, chartreuse, and spring green (on\u00a0Schumacher\u2019s moire curtains and drapery by\u00a0The Shade Store) punctuate her otherwise neutral palette, while custom wallpaper panels from\u00a0De Gournay\u00a0supply an added dose of beauty as well. The designer created the paneling to \u201carchitecturally transform the room,\u201d although she readily gives credit to the artisans who helped her achieve her goals. Bartholomew\u2019s room is minimalist yet warm, with allusions to AD100 maestro Stephen Sills\u2019s Bedford living room. From the chaise longue to the desk, the room is a \u201cmix of old, new, modern\u2014and a very classic curation of art,\u201d as she puts it. Bartholomew, who is Nashville-based, admits that she didn\u2019t really draw upon the Tennessee city when designing the room. It\u2019s a fitting choice, considering that issues of sustainability were at the heart of Newman\u2019s thought process. Moreover, she aimed to create a room that was classic yet modern, by mixing works from different styles and periods. (The diversity is evident elsewhere as well, from the geometric marquetry that helped inform the walls to the bronze butterfly clips that can be seen.)\u00a0Unlike other rooms in the house, there is a notable absence of textiles. However, Newman thoughtfully counterbalances that fact by including Canadian artist Brent Wadden\u2019s textile-informed work. An elegant and craft-oriented choice\u2014not unlike all the decisions it took to put together the room.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_57173\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 760px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brabbu.com\/usa-ny?utm_source=brabbublog&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_term=dnovo&amp;utm_content=article&amp;utm_campaign=blogscontent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-57173 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-20.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-20.jpg 750w, https:\/\/brabbu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KIPS-BAY-DECORATOR-SHOW-HOUSE-A-Treasure-in-Manhattan-20-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\"><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Matthew Monroe Bees Design<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is the first Kips Bay for Charleston-based designer Matthew Monroe Bees. To create his composition, Bees imagined that he had been asked to design a room inside Charleston\u2019s Drayton Hall, which is a preserved Georgian mansion. Schumacher created the wallpaper, while the South Carolina city\u2019s American College of the Building Arts provided the molds used for Drayton Hall\u2014which found new life in the form of casts seen on the ceiling. \u201cI pretty much hauled everything from Charleston,\u201d Bees laughs, noting that he flew up his installers for the process as well. The two screens, which cordon off the room from a bathroom, and make up the backdrop to a William IV sofa, were created by\u00a0Gracie. Nevertheless, the high ceilings and skylight windows make for the perfect setting for this artist\u2019s studio. \u201cWe really imagined this as a a space for a bohemian woman who is a world traveler,\u201d Huh and her team had to do a full gut renovation of the bathroom, which now features glass and tile from\u00a0AKDO, and a Kohler farm sink. The sink at the end of the hallway is the perfect addition for Huh\u2019s plotline, as it serves as a place where her imaginary client can wash brushes and arrange still lifes. (\u201cShe loves flowers, as do I!\u201d Huh laughs.) It is the Ironware International chandelier that perhaps best embodies Huh\u2019s theme.
