Her childhood saw Baghadad\u2019s better days without strife and warfare. There she attended a religiously diverse Catholic school and was instructed in French by nuns. Her father was a\u00a0politician and it was assumed and expected that she would further her educational studies. She attended the American University in Beirut where she studied Math. Her family fled the country after Saddam Hussein came to power, and the outbreak of war with Iran.\u00a0In 1972 Hadid moved to <em><strong>London<\/strong><\/em> and enrolled at the Architectural Association School of Architecture. The interiors are just another extension of the outside. The BMW Central Building was based on <em><strong>Zaha Hadid<\/strong> <\/em>beliefs that a building is a space that is multi-faceted and multi-dimensional. Here she reinterprets a\u00a0traditional\u00a0office. An agreement to complete the <em><strong>design<\/strong><\/em> stages of the new CBI building was finalized on 2 February 2012, at a ceremony in<em><strong>London<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0This will be her first project in her native Iraq.\u00a0Other work includes Pierres Vives, the new departmental records building (to host three institutions, namely, the archive, the library and the sports department), for French department\u00a0H\u00e9rault, in\u00a0Montpellier.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Hadid<\/strong><\/em>\u2019s project was named as the best for the\u00a0Vilnius Guggenheim Hermitage Museum\u00a0in 2008. She designed the\u00a0Innovation Tower\u00a0for\u00a0Hong Kong Polytechnic University, scheduled for completion in 2013, and the Chanel Mobile Art Pavilion that was displayed in Hong Kong in 2008. She also served as guest professor at the\u00a0Hochschule f\u00fcr bildende K\u00fcnste Hamburg\u00a0(HFBK Hamburg), the\u00a0Knowlton\u00a0School of Architecture at\u00a0Ohio State University, the Masters Studio at\u00a0Columbia University, and the\u00a0Eero Saarinen\u00a0Visiting Professor of Architectural Design at the\u00a0Yale School of <em><strong>Architecture<\/strong><\/em>. From 2000 on, Hadid has been a guest professor at The University of Applied Arts \u2013 Vienna, in the Zaha Hadid Master Class Vertical-Studio.<\/p>\n<p>Hadid was named an honorary member of the\u00a0American Academy of Arts and Letters\u00a0and an honorary\u00a0fellow of the American Institute of Architects. She has been on the board of trustees of\u00a0The <em><strong>Architecture<\/strong><\/em> Foundation. Architect Sean Griffiths characterised Hadid\u2019s work as \u201can empty vessel that sucks in whatever ideology might be in proximity to it\u201d. Her idea was to bring the city into the building, an open, \u201curban carpet\u201d, welcome to everyone. She wanted to bring contemporary art to those who were not used to or exposed to such. In back of the museum she has created a backdrop as though the carpet is rolled out \u2013 a sort of flights of fancy allowing visitors see all these different spaces. Her desire to move away from the \u201cwhite cube\u201d that we think of when we think of <em><strong>architecture<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0Here movement and light flow giving each gallery and exhibition a unique feel.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"freshome-attachment\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Get to know the history of one of the top interior designers.
