1. Country House in the canton of Zurich

IDA 14 by Karsten Schmidt: Fierce Design Projects

For the conversion of a country house from the 1940s above Lake Zurich, IDA 14 developed the design concept and implemented it in the design and planning: At the request of the client, the entire design is based on the Hampton style. Warm, delicate colors, natural floor coverings, and refined, high-quality carpentry work exemplify the style.

2. Single-family house on Lake Zurich

IDA 14 by Karsten Schmidt: Fierce Design Projects

The single-family house, built in the 1920s, is in a beautiful location on Lake Zurich. IDA 14 by Karsten Schmidt renovated the house while respecting the old structure. They put emphasis on real materials, good craftsmanship, and beautiful details.

The highlights include the beautiful herringbone parquet, the bronzed metal handrails in the stairwell, the high-quality carpentry work, and the solid natural stone slab in the kitchen, in combination with the color concept. A major structural challenge was to rebuild the old wooden beam ceilings in a sound-absorbing manner. As well as the wooden stairs connecting all floors, which had sagged over the years and creaked loudly, had to be realigned and “cleared”.

3. Hotel Sunstar

IDA 14 by Karsten Schmidt: Fierce Design Projects

Both the natural surroundings and the existing hotel serve as a source of inspiration for the new design of the hotel rooms in the Sunstar Lenzerheide by IDA 14. The choice of natural materials and a harmonious lighting concept create a pleasant, cozy atmosphere of relaxation, warmth, and familiarity in every room.

The color and material concept, which takes up the natural themes of mountains, forest, and warmth, characterizes the three room types. The conversion not only serves to improve the functionality but also offers a significantly higher quality of stay. The focus is on the well-being and needs of the guest.

4. Sorell Hotel City Weissenstein

IDA 14 by Karsten Schmidt: Fierce Design Projects

Conversion of an Art Nouveau building, a unique boutique hotel in the 3 * superior area is created by IDA 14. The main theme of our interior design is the fashion and art scene in St. Gallen.

A strong color scheme and a cozy seating area create a warm atmosphere in the hotel rooms. In the artistic roof suites, there is a wall with original samples, sketches, and fabric samples from the designer labels Jakob Schläpfer and Christian Fischbacher. The lobby is actually a living room with a modern mural depicting stylized motifs from a historical story.

5. Sorell Hotel Zürichberg Rooms

IDA 14 by Karsten Schmidt: Fierce Design Projects

The newly renovated and modernized Sorell Hotel Zürichberg is a 4 * standard boutique hotel. The unusual and individual interior design is based on the independence of architecture and history. The spatial implementation, based on the reform style and the environment, was interpreted in a contemporary way and thus conveys more proximity to the destination, by IDA 14.

The design strategy is reduction & multifunctionality. The rooms appear light, elegant, and personal. “Swissness” is represented beyond traditional clichés. True to the motto “Think global, act locally”, the design is local, valuable, durable, handcrafted, and therefore sustainable.

6. Restaurant Sorell Hotel Zürichberg

IDA 14 by Karsten Schmidt: Fierce Design Projects

When redesigning the restaurant, IDA 14 by Karsten Schmidt oriented themselves towards the typical architectural features of the splendid historical halls directly above the restaurant and build on the renovation of 1995.

The artful neon installations on the ceiling are an interpretation of the listed stucco, while the geometric wall reliefs made of light fiberglass reflect the subject of the wood paneling. The chairs with textile surfaces in strong colors provide an exciting contrast to the warm room tones. In this way, our interior design, just like the outer facade of the lower basement, builds a bridge to the past.

7. Kurhotel Im Park Bad Schinznach

IDA 14 by Karsten Schmidt: Fierce Design Projects

The 4 * spa hotel and the private clinic in the park are located in a simple, classical building in Schinznach-Bad. The therapy rooms in the listed circular building can be reached through a corridor with an aesthetic vaulted ceiling. In addition to the functional requirements in the second phase, highlighting this beauty was the greatest challenge. It was new territory for IDA 14 to design an abstract wall panel made of fiberglass-reinforced concrete that can withstand even the toughest wheelchair attacks without a trace.

The colorful ceiling in the swimming pool creates the appearance of a hotel instead of a clinic. A year earlier, the lobby was furnished with warm earth tones and natural materials such as wood.

8. Boutique Hotel Maktgasse

IDA 14 by Karsten Schmidt: Fierce Design Projects

The Marktgasse Hotel, in a listed building from the 13th century in the middle of Zurich’s old town, combines a contemporary boutique hotel with two restaurants and a bar. After a careful two-year renovation, the building impresses with its timeless, versatile design with lots of charm and personality. The design concept for the interior of the hotel comes from the creative design consultants Kessler & Kessler. IDA14 took on the development and implementation of the interior design for the operator Ospena Group AG, which also provided the concept.

9. Swissôtel Métropole Room

IDA 14 by Karsten Schmidt: Fierce Design Projects

In the second phase of the renovation of the Swissôtel Métropole in Geneva by IDA 14, the first thing you notice in the Advantage rooms is the graphic at the head of the beds. Filigree sights of the area can be found on the map of Geneva in white on gray. Framed furniture, mirrored doors, and spots give the simple rooms and suites class.

The turquoise textiles bring color into play. Material authenticity plays a major role for us. Carara marble has come into play in the bathrooms and you walk across a warm parquet floor in the suites.

10. City Garden Hotel

IDA 14 by Karsten Schmidt: Fierce Design Projects

With their architecture, the architecture firm EM2N has succeeded in letting the Hotel City Garden enter into a dialogue with the nearby park forest. It was a particular challenge for us to take up this dialogue in interior design and bring it to life.

In the rooms and suites, IDA 14 has created a luxurious, light ambiance by reducing the furniture in combination with high-quality materials. The head of the bed with a unique piece of the “Glinka Güell” fabric by Jakob Schlaepfer is an eye-catcher in every room. For the lobby and the restaurant, they developed lounge sofas and a series of wooden tables that respond to the “forest-like” atmosphere.
