With offices across the globe – including Singapore – they work as a single studio that is both ethnically and culturally diverse.

This 61-storey residential tower explores the dynamic between the city and its skyline. With a total of 94 apartments, two main design typologies distinguish them. ‘Loft Apartments’ are inspired by New York’s downtown industrial loft-style living with art gallery type spaces and finishes.

Capella Resort

In the theme of restoration and intervention in historical buildings, the design of the six-star Capella Resort brings together old and new in a tropical context. It integrates two Tanah Merah military buildings – dating from the 1880s and built as recreational spaces for officers – with a hotel, villas, extensive event spaces and a spa. Malay for ‘red earth’, Tanah Merah is a reference to Singapore’s lateritic soil, whose colour is reflected in the terracotta roofs of the region’s colonial architecture.

Dolunay Villa

The design of Dolunay Villa uses the natural contours of the site to create a low-rise building that appears as a single storey structure on approach. The house is embedded within a beautiful Mediterranean garden that offers a multisensory experience with fragrant plants such as thyme and lavender alongside rich seasonal planting and mature olive trees. The main entrance takes you directly to the heart of the villa with the private family quarters to the eastern side.

Duisburg Housing

In 1991, the practice designed a masterplan for the reinvention of an 89-hectare site in Duisburg’s Inner Harbour – the largest inland harbour in the world. The Inner Harbour masterplan transforms an industrial landscape in decline into a thriving, mixed-use urban quarter.
The design concept reflects the industrial character of the retained warehouses to the north and contemporary residential developments and park to the south by alternating opaque and transparent materials.

Faena House

The development of this project comprises 41 luxury apartments, arranged above two storeys of residents’ facilities – these include a spa, pool and state-of-the-art fitness centre. The lower levels are elevated above a tranquil natural landscape of native planting, grasses and lily ponds, which flow beneath the building and cool the entrance spaces.

House in Japan

The Kawana house, with its adjoining guesthouse, is the result of a fusion of two traditions: the Japanese love of harmony and respect for nature and the Western refinement of a dematerialised architecture of steel and glass. Situated on a dramatic stretch of volcanic coastline where long, inaccessible fingers of lava jut into Sagami Bay, the change in levels across the site and the views out to sea are central to the project’s design. Set on a raised platform, the house is positioned so that the main living areas have uninterrupted views out to sea.

Kamakura House

Designed for a Japanese collector of modern and Buddhist art, this house was conceived as a contemporary retreat with traditional influences. The house occupies a site rich with historical associations, including a Shinto shrine and man-made caves that once formed part of a workshop for crafting samurai swords.

Leedon Park House

Combining discreet family accommodation with generous spaces for entertaining, the design of this house in Leedon Park balances the constraints of the site with the alternating requirements for privacy and transparency. Leedon Park is characterised by detached, low-rise houses set back from the road, but the house owes more to the simplicity of a Thai sala and the concept of an adaptive architecture than any local style

South Beach

The South Beach development covers an entire city block between the Marina and Civic District in the heart of downtown Singapore. Combining new construction with the restoration of existing buildings, the mixed-use, energy-efficient new urban quarter brings together places to live and work with shops, cafes, restaurants, a hotel and public spaces.

The Murray

The Murray Building is a luxury 336-room hotel located on the southern edge of Central with panoramic views of The Peak and the gardens to the south and stunning uninterrupted harbour views to the north. This major transformation of the listed building aims to reinvent this abandoned urban quarter – stitching together the urban fabric by linking the large green spaces flanking the site to the east and west.
