The concept direction has been steered by both the contemporary building of the Knightsbridge Apartment and the neighbouring historic and natural Hyde Park that is key to the appeal of the prestigious location of the Apartment. The organic and soft forms are informed by the curves of the river and the vast natural landscape. The material and FF&E selection will be carefully chosen to complement the contemporary design of the Knightsbridge Apartments.
The concept reflects on the apartments locality alongside the Bosphorus in Istanbul. Inspiration was taken from the light and water and sited the plan to maximise access to views from all points. All core materials were sourced locally to create a neutral background against which art could be set. This gives the apartment a gallery aesthetic, with functional elements such as the kitchen island and stairway screen a sculptural feel. The open plan is divided into different functions to break down the continuous space.

1508 London design concept is based on the Hotel’s principles of ‘Bespoke, Intuitive, Discrete and Intimate’. The studio has sought to develop the Hotel’s key directive for achieving a ‘home from home’ service environment; extending these inherent qualities to new facilities within which members can reinvigorate, relax and socialise. The design considers the proposition resonantly and holistically and, with consideration to the quintessential originals of wellness, 1508 London have sought to create ‘a Uniquely British Spa’. In the idiom of the design of the Hotel, 1508 London have created a design that is both subtle and characterful: where spaces are identified through distinct characteristics and where ‘everyday occurrences are celebrated as spatial events. Each space and functional setting has it is a unique character, signature materiality and beauty; each flowing intuitively and harmoniously together. The Roman Bath Spa is a key inspiration: rhythmic ceremonial spaces carved from one material and subtly layered spaces creating intuitive and celebratory journeys through sequentially intimate areas. 1508 London has carefully respected and re-imagined the classical aesthetic of the Hotel whilst creating a uniqueness that gives strength of character and experience.
The all-new Jumeirah Carlton Tower will infuse a new, lighter sense of grandeur to the hotel experience, to enhance the guest journey from the moment of arrival. Inspired by the clean architectural lines of a classical colonnade, the proposed re-design will create a refined, bright, welcoming and sophisticated aesthetic throughout.
Its simplicity expresses the elemental, yet eternally engaging contrast between light and dark. Its true form is evidently linear, but the nature of a daylight periphery imparts an exact relation between the solid forms which ground it and the airy spaces which release it in every dimension. These forms are seen as dark volumes of space with dark coloured walls and heavier joinery units. Clad in unrefined earthen materials and finishes; smoked wood and leather, they are functional and embrace technology services. The movement of light from the periphery is represented by either colour or transparency, with light-shaded wall planes and panels of glazing. They disperse and intersect on the edges of the dark solid architecture to define integral circulation paths. Though sleek and tectonic in surface appearance, the delicate nature of glass and mirror used throughout is always balanced with illumination and enhanced by a material that is uneven, intimate and unpretentious, we can see this in the textured antiqued metal and luxurious textiles which are pliable supple and responsive to the light. In this way expression of light not only defines the circulation of the user but also the scaled-down functions. This contrast works to make the design an honest place for living, where the interiors become seamless from the large expanses to the delicate details.
