Jeffrey Bilhuber - The Bridge Between the Past and Present of Design

Jeffrey Bilhuber has a unique perspective to design that breathes new life into tradition with a confirmed understanding of modern awareness; he mixes periods and design ideas with an instinctive style which reflects practicality and sheer beauty.

Jeffrey Bilhuber has published more than two hundred books about design and has been featured in every national and international shelter publication.

This townhouse in New York had to define the strong visual goals of a very enlightened family and create an ideal setting for decades of accumulated acquisitions and interests. A fanciful richness courses throughout the house and gardens.

The house is filled with reflected light from the water and now encompasses a sprawling kitchen, family room, guest house and terraced gardens that embrace their surroundings and the family that lives there.

Jeffrey Bilhuber’s Design Basics, his first book, is now in its sixth printing. Its follow-up, Defining Luxury: The Qualities of Life at Home, continues a tradition of reaching his broad and diverse market, articulating the mood of a nation, and forecasting the essential goals of the many or few.

The house bridges the gap between traditional and modern and sets a new standard for contemporary luxury.

Clear colours with a monochromatic background were just the ticket to bring a high-spirited casual feeling to these charming rooms. The house is opened well before the first daffodils blossom and stays in active use until the bitter end of the Christmas season-

In this third book, The Way Home: Reflections of American Beauty, Bilhuber shares his reflections of personal histories and family life, not grand gestures of presentation. In other words, decorating with soul. His latest title, American Master: Notes on Style and Substance represents his curated point of view on design.

By nature, the residents of this multicultural city are fearless in mixing periods and confident in their use of colour. These rooms illustrate those qualities and deliver a house that is simultaneously luxurious and modern.

A townhouse on the Upper East Side of Manhattan underwent a full restoration by Peter Pennoyer Architects.

Jeffrey Bilhuber takes his design ideas from the understanding of the importance of history while optimistically looking towards the future. With almost 30 years of decorating experience, Bilhuber brings acclaimed confidence and clarity to his far-reaching projects.

Almost all of the rooms front the park and have taken on the allure of rooms that have grown into a harmonious whole. To diffuse the odd angles and unite the interiors I created a series of soothingly monochromatic interiors with an emphasis on strong lines, generously upholstered furnishings, and carefully edited objects.

The primary goal for the project was to re-think the need for a weekend escape and to capture all the relaxed charm associated with country living. Painted floors of superb quality, coupled with generous doses of European cotton gingham checks promote these goals. The addition of first-rate antique furnishings roots the apartment firmly in the sophisticated environs of New York City.

Jeffrey Bilhuber‘s interiors consistently address the needs of an evolving and enlightened society with historic respect and modern insightfulness. Bilhuber represents the quintessential New York-based interior designer.

In the dignified environs of Kent Connecticut, this handsome stone house has stood proudly on the property for centuries. It has been significantly enlarged and expanded to encompass two guest houses, formal gardens, covered bridges, stables, and a screening room. Each renovation has delivered a house more timely, modern, and appropriate. Standing the test of time is a key goal in my work. Rooms that are classic and timeless will effortlessly return on their investment.

Engaged by both the past and present, Jeffrey Bilhuber‘s work is honest, urbane, edited, intuitive, brisk, stylish and modern, with a strong individual point of view.
