The word contemporary means of the moment, making the style really hard to define. Dating back to the 1970s, this style is unique because it borrows elements from many other movements and styles. In it, you can see inclinations to modern, traditional, art deco and even futuristic design.
A contemporary design style of decoration is defined by simplicity, subtle sophistication, deliberate use of texture and clean lines. The contemporary interior is filled with space instead of things. They focus on colour, space and shape, and are sleek and fresh. The colours in the contemporary style are mainly neutrals, black and white. The palette is often punched up and accented with bright and cold colour that play against neutrals.

The Contemporary Style has very strong lines, whether they are straight or round. This line is usually found in architectural details and the contemporary furniture products make bold statements and, at the same time, are simple and uncluttered, without curves or decoration. Smooth, clean, geometric shapes are essential.
Upholstered furniture is often black, white or other neutral tones, using natural fibres found in wool, cotton, linen, silk and the pillows have geometric shapes that add a pop of colour and texture. Sofas, chairs and ottomans often have exposed legs. Beds and chairs usually don’t have skirts, trim, fringes or tassels. A Contemporary home’s floor is bare and smooth, using wood, tile or vinyl.
BRABBU, inspired by this style, has created this mood-board to get your inspiration flowing. Here the Contemporary characteristics are self-evident: the clean geometric lines, the black and whites.
