Fusing Milanese design with timeless Oriental luxury, Mandarin Oriental, Milan lies in the heart of Italy’s most fashionable city. Occupying four elegant 18th-century buildings steps away from La Scala, the hotel offers the perfect combination of comfort, elegance and style.

Bulgari Milan. The Ferraris and Lamborghinis in the car park set the tone of this luxury Milan hotel. Interiors are stylish and contemporary with black marble and granite, bronze, teak and oak fittings, and Italian furniture. Suites have a selection of art and design books. The spa has a 12-metre gold mosaic swimming pool and glass-fronted hammam with stone seating. Floor-to-ceiling windows ensure plenty of light; mirrored window-panes in the restaurant area look out over the garden. Also overlooking the garden is the bar which is extremely popular among Milan’s jet set, especially for aperitivo. This garden is believed to date as far back as the 1300s (it was once a monastery vegetable garden) and is one of the hotel’s main draws.

Pink Baveno marble columns recall Milan’s La Scala Opera House, while the lobby’s Venetian mosaic floors take inspiration from the city’s Villa Reale. Rooms and suites are fitted with antique furniture, sculptures and paintings that were collected by architect and hotel owner Paola Giambelli, from oil paintings to marble statues. All feature spacious balconies and terraces affording panoramic views of the historical centre, the Porta Nuova district or the skyscrapers of Piazza Gae Aulenti. An opulent ballroom overlooks the garden which is a peaceful spot to enjoy breakfast, afternoon tea or an aperitif.
