The designer Ferruccio Laviani has created an installation reminding a wonderland, inspired by Lewis Carroll’s famous book, Alice in Wonderland, for the Italian outdoor furniture brand Unopiu. The installation was set in the gardens of the Triennale di Milano, also known as Milan’s Design Museum, during Milan Design Week 2013.
The installation had seven colorful glass gazebos – blue, emerald and light green, fuchsia, orange, red and yellow. Each one hosting an out-of-scale microworld, a whimsical environment teetering between reality and fiction.
Three of the houses were furnished with pieces from the collection of outdoor contemporary furniture produced by Unopiu, while the remaining four host a jungle of gigantic plants and flowers, several fantastic objects, animals and human figures, as well as anatomical tables, represented through large colorful and black and white drawings suspended from their ceilings.
About the project Laviani said: “I like to imagine that reality always has two sides, a little as if the part reflected in a mirror were to have infinite variations compared to the real image. What I really love about my work is that through an exhibition or an installation I am able to provide an unexpected, unusual, surprising version of things through a story or an experience.”
