Inca Trail – Peru
Laid by the Incas, this ancient trail is traversed by thousands of hikers each year. The 33km (20 miles) long trail starts from the Sacred Valley and leads to Machu Picchu, taking the hikers up and down around the breathtaking mountains and through the river, the lakes and the lush green vegetation.
Mount Everest Base Camp
The trail starts from Lukla, Nepal, and it’s for those who don’t mind the cold and enjoy high altitudes. While you are on this-close-to-2-weeks journey, you will see mountain peaks lost in the clouds above and the homes and wildflowers scattered around below.
The 10th highest mountain on the world is the Annapurna. On this journey, you will pass through 4 regions: Lamjung, Manang, Mustang, and Myagdi. The Lamjung and Myagdi are regions of subtropical valleys and terraced farming, meanwhile in the Manang and Mustang regions you will find yourself amongst higher elevations and colder temperatures. You will pass through the world’s deepest gorge and you’ll also have the opportunity to visit Buddhist villages and Hindu holy sites on the way. This journey could take up to 3 weeks to complete.
Tongariro Northern Circuit – New Zealand
One of the world’s most spectacular hikes is located on these mountainous islands. The Tongariro Northern Circuit is about 35 kilometers (22 miles) through non-stop volcanic and desert environments that will make you feel like you are trekking on Mars!
Hikers who set out on this out-of-this-world hike will circumambulate the active volcano mountain Ngaurube guaranteeing an exciting adventure through boiling mud pools, craters, lava features, water filled volcanic vents, glacial valleys and water-filled explosion craters called the Emerald Lakes.
Kalalau Trail – Kauai, Hawaii
The finest coastal hike in the world is the rugged route through Kauai’s impressive Nā Pali Coast. With tropical heat and steep trails, after a day of slogging through cliffs above, you are rewarded with a view of the impossibly serene arc of golden Kalalau Beach along the shimmering Pacific. The Kalalau Valley itself holds fairy-tale waterfalls and lush tropical jungle, well worthy of exploration.
