The Future Heritage is a selection made each year by a specialist invited by Decorex to choose the today’s most important designers. Decorex 2015 invited the design and applied arts critic, Corinne Julius, to do the Future Heritage collection for the trade show this year.
Scroll down to see the definitive guide to today’s most important designer makers and the names to collect in British craft this year, for Decorex 2015.
“I am an artist and maker using a lathe and carving tools to make vessels and sculptural forms in wood. My base is in South London at Cockpit Arts, a community of artisans.”
‘Aliens from the Undergrowth” is a collection of papier mâché furniture by Chinese designer Chenbo Shi. Inspired by the morphology and construction of different insects, these distinctive furniture pieces create a cultural identity for nature, intended for contemporary urban interiors and social spaces.
Gomez hand throws porcelain vessels that are aesthetically beautiful and entirely functional.
“My work can be described as 3 dimensional drawings, in the medium of ceramics. Each piece, on the surface, an inanimate object, has been given layers of emotion and embedded with stories, which are open for interpretation in the viewer’s mind.
When put together, the pieces combine to make a tableau staging the still lives of everyday objects. The life size pieces and the unexpectedness of the scale create a slightly surreal experience as you walk through this strange environment.”
Rita Parniczky’s artwork explores the passage of light through translucent material installations. Light brings visual change to the pieces, which she studies at different locations and times, from varied viewpoints. Exposed to natural or artificial light, the pieces take on the luminosity of crystals or the refraction of icicles. This spontaneous metamorphosis has captured the imagination of many viewers – and it also commands Parniczky’s attention as she reflects on the natural effects of daylight’s natural progress and manipulates the synthetic effects of lighting systems.
