Aēsop: life, beauty and time

Detail Aēsop store in Hong Kong

How can a cosmetics brand and an architecture studio relate to each other? By joining conceptual and design forces to create not only an interior space breathing the identity of the brand, but also an installation that we may consider a beautiful allegory to their commitment to life, beauty and time.

We are talking about the symbiotic relationship between the Chinese / German architecture studio Cheungvogl and the Australian cosmetics brand Aēsop at their store in Lane Crawford, Hong Kong.

Besides designing the interior space of the store, Cheungvogl created a contrasting installation, composed by two blocks made of naturally aged timber taken from Chinese boats. These rough volumes are placed in a white surroundings and almost make you feel that all those Aēsop jars, packs and tubes – all packaging marked by minimalism – were taken from an old laboratory where a cosmetic scientist once made important discoveries for today’s products.

The old timber gives a beautiful rough vision of beauty and remembers that caring for your hair, skin and body includes a respect for their ageing and their capacity of carrying the signs of the story of your life.

The whole concept of Aēsop promotes not only the use of their products but having a harmonious lifestyle by suggesting a “healthy diet, sensible exercise, a moderate intake of red wine, and a regular dose of stimulating literature.”
